Diversity

Diversity week was this last week and it was really cool to see all the different cultures. It was fun to learn about the different ways of living and way of doing things. I kind of wish that i actually went to the meeting time, but i didnt. I think that it is really important that we all know a little about different cultures. It is easy to offend another culture if you know nothing about it. When people know alot about different cultures, it is easier for them to tell if things are appropriate or not. Diversity week is a good thing to have!

World Vision Week

I think that world vision week was a very good thing. It was enabling students to realize what is happening in the outside world. People were able to see what other organizations were doing and how they could help with the problems in other parts of the world. Many people do not realize what is happening outside the united states, and they presented the problems really well. The guy is really good at talking and sharing what is going on in the world. I hope that we can all take what we learned seriously and do something with it. Thats all. Period.

The Holocaust

In the last session we talked about the Holocaust. One of the oungest Holocaust survivors came and spoke. I learned a lot of information from her, and i really learned a little bit of what it was like during that time for a jewish person. Before this session i dont think i fully understood how they were taken and some of the things that happened. I admire her so much for being able to go in front of people and tell them her story about how her family was taken away. That takes a lot of courage. Im really glad that i went to that session.

sexual abuse, porn, and body image...

The topics that i wrote up top are very heavy issues... they affect many people today and a majority of teens today are struggling with the issues today or the aftermath of the issues. None of these topics really affect me personally, but they are affecting the people around me. I think that it is good to become knowledgable about these issues just in case someone that you love is struggling with one of them. It is always good to be well rounded and not be stuck in a bubble. I think that this last session was really needed.

Alcoholism

Alcohol has never really affected me directly. I never got caught up in the whole drinking as a social thing. I stuck with my same friends through junior high and the frist year of high school and we didnt really need to impress anyone else because we had fun already. End of freshman year though was when things started to get a little rough. My friends wanted to be in the partying crowd and i didnt really know how to deal with that. The only thing i knew how to do was get away from that. I changed schools my sophmore year and i never really had the tempting or urges to drink. I had great friends at my new school that didnt really need that either. I did however see some of the effects of drinking through some of my other friends. The effects were never positive so still i have no desire to drink. Thats all!

My Goals....

I know my goals for this semester very well because i just wrote ALL of them on a paper for my health class.... So here they are!!

1. Keep up with school and get decent grades.
2. Have fun and meet some people that can become very good friends.
3. And finally... know myself better and know what really makes me tick!

I think that my strengths are going to help me complete my goals because i can get things done. My strengths say that i like getting to know other people so i guess i can use my strengths to get to know myself also.

Thats all!!

My fun and super exciting strengths!

The results from my lovely test are: empathy, developer, restorative, positivity, and last but now least relator. I would say that empathy is definitely in me. Some days i feel so tied down in emotions but most of the time they aren't even my emotions. I think that i get this way because i do have alot of friends that come talk to me about their problems and i seem to take their problems as my own because I put myself in there situation. Sometimes this isn't a good quality to have.
My next strength is develper and i think this also is in me. I don't think it is as prevelant as empathy though. I love talking to people and finding out what they want to do with their life and their goals. Also, i like seeing people change and what happens throughout their years.
I think that restorative is me too, I love to solve problems. Math is probably my favorite subject just because i can solve for the answer and find a definite solution. I get super excited when i learn how to do something differently and acheive the right answer.
Now on to positivity... i think that i am positive most of the time but other times i just like to be a little sarcastic. On the other hand i like making people feel good about themselves. On boat trips when people get up for the first time I am the one screaming the loudest and i love it!
And finally the last one. I think i am and am not a relator. I love making new friends and hearing about their stories. Of course i like spending time with the friends that i have already made a connection with, but who doesnt?
I asked both of my parents and my boyfriend. My boyfriend said that i definitely have the empathy part and the positivity part. I guess i dont realize half the time when i am being positive. My parents answered very similar to eachother, they also said that empathy is mainly me but i also have a part of restorative and developer. Now, i am going to have to pay close attention to what i really am to see if my strengths match up to how i am.
